Places to Visit in Sussex

Amberley Museum & Heritage Centre gives you the chance to experience the intrigue & magic of the past & gives you the chance to find out more about our heritage & be nostalgic.  It is set in the South Downs National Park. There's Vintage Fun on a vintage bus or narrow gauge railway, and there are steam engines to see, buses & fire engines..It's also home to a number of resident craftspeople.  You can also become a volunteer

You can enjoyably spend time exploring Sussex villages & Sussex towns such as Midhurst (described by English Heritage as "a hidden jewel" - get off the main street and discover the back lanes)

Mansion House Petworth is well worth a visit
Petworth House also has an amazing deer park,
and a wonderful collection of paintings

Other things we've done in Sussex have included..

  • buying clothes for my father in the historic town of Petworth in Allans Mens Clothing Store, plus browsing lots of antique shops
  • window-shopping & people watching in cities such as Chichester with its magnificent cathedral or Brighton
  • discovering the little old cottages in the older part of Shoreham by Sea, just off the sea front
  • getting absolutely immersed in the rare & second hand book shops in Lewes - which also has the Anne of Cleves House
  • enjoying the relaxing roll of the sea on the pebbly beach at the Witterings.
  • getting plenty of good fresh air on the Sussex Downs with its fantastic views of the countryside on one side and the English Channel on the other
  • spending hours strolling around Leonardslee Gardens
  • wondering through Horsham with its bandstand & square makes for an enjoyable afternoon's stroll
