Steam Train Trips in Sussex
| There are quite a few ways to enjoy a journey on a steam railway in Sussex, especially if you're willing to roam around the countryside a bit to get there. Please check timetables in advance so you can be sure they will be running. The Lavender Line The Lavender Line runs for a 2 mile round trip through the beautiful Sussex countryside between the village of Isfield and the parish of Little Horsted, near Uckfield in East Sussex (TN22 5XB). It also has volunteering opportunties Situated at the bottom of the beautiful Sussex Downs, you'll find this centre between Arundel and Storrington, next to Amberley Railway Station. Exhibits include a narrow-gauge railway and This famous little railway has given joy & fun to thousands visitors. There's also information on volunteering. Like any heritage railway, there are different ways to volunteer. Here's their visitor info- you can enjoy all day hop-on, hop-off Rover fares which allow unlimited travel along the full 10 ½ miles (16.8 km) of the railway. You can stop off to explore at any station - to visit Bodiam Castle for example, or to look over the loco yard at Rolvenden.  Train Experience: Diesel Train Cab Ride with Kent and East Sussex Railway for One , Tenterden, Kent Spa Valley Railway The railway has heritage steam and diesel trains operating between Eridge and Tunbridge Wells. You can volunteer. There are plenty of events (including days out with Thomas but book early for those) throughout the year. Click here to go to their website. South Downs Light Railway For Little trains with a great appeal, take a look at the South Downs Light Railway. Trains run from March to September. The volunteer run railway is in the Pulborough Garden Centre, Stopham Road, Pulborough and trains take you on a trip through the gardens from Stopham Road Station.
