Help animals in Sussex - pets & farm animals

 

You can make a big difference to animals even just from home

There are lots of pets and farm animals charities you can get involved with in Sussex and some - such as the Brooke - help animals further afield in countries.  A few of them are listed below - this is a work in progress!

Animal Charities in Sussex include... 
  1. Moorcroft Equine Rehabilitation Centre rehabilitates racehorses for second careers or as companion animals
  2. Last Chance Animal Rescue (okay, so they are in Kent, strictly speaking but give or take a few miles, it's all for the animals & my direction was never brilliant - they are in Edenbridge)
  3. Sussex Pet Rescue  works to help small animal charities in Sussex
  4. Lost Cats help cats and support their owners in the Brighton and Hove area.  They've got a free 'lost and found' register, and a fostering and adoption service to help rescue and rehome cats in need. 
  5. Mount Noddy Animal Centre (near Chichester, an RSPCA branch that is entirely self-financing)
  6. Cats Protection - HQ is at Chelwood Gate, near East Grinstead, & there's plenty of branches & some charity shops to get involved with
  7. Celia Hammond Animal Trust helps stray, abandoned and unwanted animals.  It operates in London and the South East
  8. Dogs Trust, Shoreham rescue and rehome dogs.  They also a number of in-person behaviour services in various locations and virtual sessions to support you and your dog.  They have lots of help and advice for dog owners covering dog health, training tips and advice, life with a dog, getting a dog and more.   If a dog owner wants to find safety from domestic abuse but can't take their dog with them, the Dogs Trust's Freedom programme provides a temporary home for their dog with a foster carer until their owners are safe, and settled and ready to have them back. 
  9. ABC Animal Sanctuary in West-Chiltington, West-Sussex takes in all kinds of animals such as cats, pigs, equines, donkeys, birds and goats that are seeking safe place to live
  10. RSPCA - the HQ is just outside Horsham and the RSPCA has branches around Sussex - find your local here.
  11. Wadars - the rehabilitation of wildlife &  the rescue & re-homing of domestic pets - they are on the move to a new base in Patching.   We wish them well in their new home.
  12. Raystede, Ringmer, East Sussex, caring for birds, cats, dogs, equine, wildlife & more
  13. The Cinnamon Trust always needs volunteers around the country to help the elderly & terminally ill with pet care, whether they are in care homes or their own home
  14. International Animal Rescue helps wild & domestic animals with rescue & rehabilitation, including cutting free the dancing bears of India
  15. The Blue Cross provides vet care, offers behavioural help and finds homes for pets.  They provide advice to owners, and have pet food banks and aim to look after surviving pets whose owners have sadly passed away.  They also provide support to bereaved pet owners.  
  16. Paws & Claws Animal Rescue Service, Sayers Common, West Sussex
  17. Kit Wilson Trust for Animal Welfare - animal rescue & re-homing plus wildlife rehabilitation & rescue & wildlife emergency help line.  Based in Hadlow Down, East Sussex
  18. Raystede, in East Sussex,  works to rescue, rehabilitate, rehome and provide sanctuary for animals in need. 
  19. Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund for rabbits, aiming to ensure they are cared for with understanding, kindness and insight - they have lots of advice and help for rabbit owners.
  20. Cat Welfare Sussex is dedicated to the welfare of stray, feral and abandoned cats within the area.
  21. The Oldies - rescues & re-homes older dogs in many parts of the UK
  22. Croydon Animal Samaritans - volunteers & fosterers always needed
  24. The Brooke - help fundraise for horses, mules & donkeys around the world.
