Places to Visit in Sussex Amberley Museum & Heritage Centre gives you the chance to experience the intrigue & magic of the past & gives you the chance to find out more about our heritage & be nostalgic. It is set in the South Downs National Park. There's Vintage Fun on a vintage bus or narrow gauge railway, and there are steam engines to see, buses & fire engines..It's also home to a number of resident craftspeople. You can also become a volunteer. You can enjoyably spend time exploring Sussex villages & Sussex towns such as Midhurst (described by English Heritage as "a hidden jewel" - get off the main street and discover the back lanes) Petworth House also has an amazing deer park, and a wonderful collection of paintings Other things we've done in Sussex have included.. - buying clothes for my father in the historic town of Petworth in Allans Mens Clothing Store, plus browsing lots of antique shops
- window-shopping & people watching in cities such as Chichester with its magnificent cathedral or Brighton
- discovering the little old cottages in the older part of Shoreham by Sea, just off the sea front
- getting absolutely immersed in the rare & second hand book shops in Lewes - which also has the Anne of Cleves House
- enjoying the relaxing roll of the sea on the pebbly beach at the Witterings.
- getting plenty of good fresh air on the Sussex Downs with its fantastic views of the countryside on one side and the English Channel on the other
- spending hours strolling around Leonardslee Gardens
- wondering through Horsham with its bandstand & square makes for an enjoyable afternoon's stroll
- take a afternoon walk in Ashdown Forest
- playing Pooh Sticks
- visit Arundel Castle, founded in the 11th century - don't forget to explore their gardens and search out their events especially if you are into history or classical cars
- visiting the Weald and Downland Living Museum with its Rare and Traditional Breeds Show - there are lots of events taking place!
- going to Arundel Cathedral
- head to Bignor Roman Villa, the stunning remains of a Roman home with world-class mosaic floors in a spectacular Downland setting
- Visit one of the six historic sites of the Sussex Archaeological Society
